About Madeleine
Madeleine Arenivar is a literary translator from Spanish.
She is the translator of the novel Carnaval Fever by Yuliana Ortiz Ruano, and her translations of short fiction have been published in journals such as Another Chicago Magazine, Latin American Literature Today, Los Angeles Review, and Southwest Review.
Her work has been selected for awards including a PEN Translates grant (2025), the PEN Presents program (2023), and the Best Literary Translations Anthology (Deep Vellum, 2024).
Madeleine has been a copy editor of academic texts in the social sciences for over a decade, specializing in improving the clarity and focus of texts written by non-native English speakers for academic publication. Her approach to untangling meaning in a text and her passion for championing diverse voices in the Anglophone publishing sphere permeates both strands of her work.
Madeleine has degrees from Vassar College and the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) Ecuador and is a past attendee of Bread Load Translator’s Conference. She lives in Quito.
